2010 NAACP Convention

NAACP, Anita Russell

Anita Russell – Local Branch President

  • $7.8 Million Economic Impact

"[Holding a convention in KC] means a lot... because when people come to a city they have to eat. They’re going to shop, and so that brings a lot of money to a city. Many of us have gone to other cities and spent dollars in other cities, so we want the convention to come to Kansas City and spend some of those dollars here to help boost our economy."

USA Volleyball, Hank Van Arsdale

Hank Van Arsdale – Heart of America Regional Commissioner

  • $10.1 Million Economic Impact
  • 14,000 Volleyball Fans

"We are going to be here through 2014 for sure. We hope to be here longer. We made a long term commitment to Kansas City, because we have had the cooperation of the CVA. Kansas City really works well for us."

  • 20,000 Delegates

"[The CVA Sales Staff]  are the greatest people in the world to work with. They are just awesome. That’s what has made it so easy for us to hold the convention in Kansas City. The Convention and Visitors Association and the local committee... we handle the planning like no other city. We work as a team, together. We love it."

2011 Barbershop Harmony Society Convention

Barbershop Society, Mike Matheau

Mike Mathieu – National Events Committee Chairman

  • $7.7 Million Economic Impact

"Why do I do it? Because I believe in Kansas City. I love Kansas City. I live here, and I think it’s the greatest place in the world to hold a Barbershop convention or any other kind of convention. We love it here. We’re the Heart of America and as far as I’m concerned we are the heart of the world."
