Home to the international headquarters of Hallmark Cards, Crown Center offers something for everyone.
The three-level Crown Center Shops feature more than 60 shops and restaurants. Eating options range from a burger spot where meals are delivered by miniature train to the city's only Mobil Four-Star dining experience, The American Restaurant. Shopaholics are drawn to the unique specialty stores, headlined by Halls Crown Center. Theatregoers can choose from Broadway-style productions at the American Heartland Theatre, award-winning youth-oriented shows at The Coterie Theatre and innovative shows at the new Off Center Theatre. The center also hosts free activities, such as children's exhibits, fashion shows, puppet and magic shows and the Crayola Christmas Land.
Crown Center Square, located right across from the shopping center, is the heart of the complex. It's home to events throughout the year that are great for the whole family, including ethnic festivals, an antique show, outdoor movie series, concerts and a pumpkin patch.
Also at the complex are free Hallmark-sponsored activities. The Hallmark Visitors Center details the illustrious history of the world's leader in personal expression, while Kaleidoscope offers a creative art experience for children ages 5-12.
Travelers can choose from two of the city's most luxurious hotels--The Westin Crown Center and the Hyatt Regency Crown Center. They're connected to the shopping center by The Link, an elevated, climate-controlled pedestrian walkway.

Last Christmas, my husband and I and our two little guys ages 1 1/2 and 3 1/2 drove to Kansas City on a whim. Luckily, we were able to get a great rate at the Crowne Plaza where we spent much of our time holed up chowing room service, playing Candyland, and swimming in the indoor / outdoor pool. Of course when we did leave the room, we were all mystified by the sights and smells at the Crown Center--the music box and train store, the candy shop, and the festivities around the ice rink were all big hits. While the blanket of snow covering everything made the lights especially charming, it was so nice to have the Link to use when we needed to stay out of the elements.
On Sunday, we made the trek all the way across the Link through the old depot to Lydia's for Sunday brunch. The food was deklicious and the cozy atmosphere was even better! We plan on repeating the trip this year in the fall so we can enjoy the beautiful colors of the changing leaves and catch the Farmer's Market in full swing. The attached picture is of my son Fischer at Lydia's. He was absolutely thrilled by that tiny piece of tiramisu.

Theses photos were taken during my first Christmas in Kansas City; Dec 2008. My best friend / college roommate drove down to Kansas City to attend a work sponsored Holiday party with me. When we left the party it was a surprisingly warm and breezy evening. I think it approximately 56 degrees out! I decided to impress her by taking her to skating rink at the Crowne Center. Conditions were perfect for splashing around in the fountains while upbeat Christmas music was jingling in the background.

I moved to the Kansas City area about 2 years ago and I love every minute of it. My son and I can always find some activity to enjoy whether that be Crown Center, Legends, parks, Worlds of Fun, free activities with the Power and Light District or the City Market. I am a single mother of a 2 year old so money is tight but we are always able to find a free activity or something for a minimal price to enjoy. As you can see from my pictures attached, he absolutely loves the fountains througout Kansas City. Kansas City brings excitement and happiness into our lives. I am very proud to live here and be a part of such a wonderful, open community. Thanks!

We had a great day. Our four-year-old daughter loved it. She had a great time playing in the fountains and on the inflatables. She also liked the live music. Plus, there was a bubbles tent.
