The Arabia Steamboat Museum is home to a true time capsule of frontier life in the 1800s. The Arabia was headed up the Missouri River in the fall of 1856 when she struck a tree snag and sank just north of Kansas City. Her cargo hold was full of 200 tons of supplies bound for general stores and pioneer settlements. As the years passed, the river changed course and left the Arabia buried beneath a Kansas cornfield. Finally, in 1988 a group of modern-day adventurers uncovered the lost Arabia and her magnificent cargo. They were amazed to find fine dishware, clothing, and even bottled food all preserved in remarkable condition. Their find has been called the King Tut's Tomb of the Missouri River. So, if you're looking for an adventure your whole family will enjoy, discover the treasures of the steamboat Arabia.

We went to the Steamboat Museum and we absolutely LOVED it. The story pulled you in and made you feel like you were actually part of it. Made you want to read more/learn more about it. The interactive part of the tour was great and you got be active in the tour, not just a boring speech. It was a great experience for us two adults and both kids loved it too (13yr olds)!! Would definately come back again.

The Arabia Steamboat Museum is simply amazing. The jaw-dropping displays tell an important story of a family's vision, tenacity, innovation, and creativity. I shared the family's excitement as they developed their vision; met the challenges, and created a dazzling commitment to the history of Kansas City and the Missouri River in 1856.

A pleasant surprise

I took my family to the Arabia Steamboat Museum, and we thoroughly enjoyed the tour. We learned alot about the steamboat, the way people lived in 1856, the discovery and the people involved in the recovery of the boat. My children enjoyed it too, and we really appreciated being able to talk with the restoration technician. The whole place is "first class".

Wow, this is such a COOL museum. We even got to have questions answered by one of the museum owners who discovered the Arabia. This held the whole family's attention (3-35)! VERY glad we stopped here. Well worth the price of admission. It's really hard to believe all of the things that they dug up AND what great condition they are in!

Spectacular--a must see!!!

Having watched a documentary about the discovery of the Arabia a few years ago, my husband and I knew we wanted to visit the museum during our trip to KC. We are so glad that we did! What a quality, well done museum! The staff was very personable and knowledgeable. David Hawley, one of the treasure hunters, even came and talked to us after the film!

My husband and I visited the museum and were absolutely amazed by the high-quality presentation and exhibit of the artifacts taken off the Arabia. We were enthralled throughout the whole presentation from the video to the actual exhibits. We can't wait to return and bring our grand sons. This is an amazing piece of history and there is none other like it. I bought the book and enjoy reading it again and again.
