Attractions 101

Kansas City knows how to entertain visitors. After all, this city has a rich history of delighting travelers since we first put out the welcome mat for those heading west on the California, Oregon and Santa Fe Trails.

There’s an adventure around every corner

Whether learning how greeting cards are made at the international headquarters of Hallmark Cards or watching how a “hog” is assembled at Harley-Davidson Vehicle and Powertrain Operations, today’s traveler will find a multitude of diverse and fun attractions.

The Bloch BuildingAnd chances are that Kansas City has changed since your last visit. Experience some of Kansas City’s new attractions, like the National World War I Museum at Liberty Memorial or the Bloch Building at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Sports fans can get in the game at the new College Basketball Experience, which features interactive exhibits and a hoops hall of fame.

Kids can’t get enough of Science City, a hands-on children’s museum at Union Station that will have them laughing and learning. Nearby Kaleidoscope allows children to explore their creativity during free workshops.

Worlds of Fun_026_AA.jpgThrill-seekers of all ages love the side-by-side theme parks, Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun. Modeled after the tale, Around the World in Eighty Days, Worlds of Fun features more than 50 rides, shows and attractions. Catch more than 60-acres of surf, sand and fun at Oceans of Fun, the Midwest’s largest tropically-themed water park.

For a wild time, head to the Kansas City Zoo. The zoo's naturalistic settings are home to more than 1,200 exotic animals. Or, get a speed-rush at one of many Kansas Speedway racing events.

Boulevard Brewing Company_032_AA.jpgFor adults, the city’s four casinos offer traditional gaming, dining and amazing live entertainment. Boulevard Brewing Co. offers a taste of how specialty beer is made, with tours of its modern production facility.

For interactive family fun, get behind the wheel of a high-performance cart that reaches speeds of up to 45 mph at Sadlers Indoor Racing. Ride the bumper cars and go-carts at Paradise Park. Or play a game that’s a combination of bumper cars, basketball and jai alai—called whirly ball—at PowerPlay.

One-of-a-kind boutiques and fashion’s favorite labels can be found at Kansas City’s shopping attractions. However, they offer so much more than fabulous finds. Take an architectural tour of the Country Club Plaza. See live theater at Crown Center. People watch at the City Market, one of the Midwest’s largest farmers’ markets. After the shops close, Westport becomes a nightlife hotspot.

When it comes to attractions, Kansas City has plenty to keep visitors busy!
