Neighborhoods to Know

Guadalupe Centers

A storied KC district with deep roots as a home for many Latin American residents, the Westside is home to two of Kansas City’s pre-eminent institutions serving Latino communities: The Guadalupe Centers and the Mattie Rhodes Center. Founded in 1919, the Guadalupe Centers holds designation from the National Register of Historic Places as one of the country’s oldest operating agencies serving Latinos. In addition to providing family, youth and community services, Mattie Rhodes is home to an art center and gallery that hosts regular tours and rotating exhibits.

In the heart of the Westside neighborhood, grab a table at Los Alamos Cocina for all-day Mexican fare or take home an assortment of Sonoran-style tortillas from Yoli Tortilleria, a James Beard Award winner for Outstanding Bakery.

At the south end of the district, Southwest Blvd. is home to a lineup of quick and casual Mexican restaurants, including Ricos Tacos Lupe, Tacos El Gallo and Palacana, a popular pick for paletas and aguas frescas.
